The City

History in brief: If you zoom in quite closely, just to the right of the yellow building, you can see the Baker & Hamilton building, which was built in 1904-1905 by architects Sutton & Weeks and survived both the 1906 and Loma Prieta earthquakes. The railroad tracks here extend to the front of the building at 7th and King Streets, when they would load equipment directly onto the railcars. The Baker & Hamilton building is the last remaining piece of the industrial complex (originally the Pacific Hardware & Steel Co.) which initiated the development of San Francisco as a major manufacturing warehouse district and port city.
